Search Engine Optimisation for Small to Medium Organisations

The number of SME companies that are disappointed with their Website performance is distressingly high. Much of this may be due to poor positioning on the search engines. Our SME service is specially tailored to provide competitive results for smaller organisations.

We're a small organisation ourselves. Come to visit us (you're welcome!) and once you've shaken hands with 13 people you're done, so we know at first hand the constraints of operating a small business in a very big world. The UK in particular is becoming something of a nation of SMEs, and there are many world-class businesses with less than 250 employees.

We're trying to give you a completely fair advantage. Just because you don't have a mega-buck marketing budget, you shouldn't be prevented from competing on the world stage.

It would be fatuous to say that our small business service is the same as that we provide to large organisations; apart from anything else, your needs are different. But we do commit (as we do for large companies) to bringing you a service that matches your requirements and your budgets.

In many cases you'll have the advantage of simplicity; your Website may be smaller than that of one of the giant's, or you may be working in a niche market where competition is lower. We'll try to identify the exact, targeted services that will give you the "biggest bang for your buck". While the purse may not stretch to a ful,l multi-level, maintained optimisation process, there are sure to be initiatives that can be taken to begin the process of increasing your return on Web investment.

XSEO Coefficient Report

How much easier would it be to optimise your site if you knew what your competitors had done?

Designed specifically for the Smaller to Medium Company the Coefficient report shows you exactly what your competitors have done to get their top listings. The coefficient report is an essential part to any project, it is now available as a stand alone product.

How does the report work?

We all know that Google has a set of criteria it uses to evaluate the position of a site. The difficulty has always been working out what works and what doesn't.

  • How much page tweaking do you need to do?
  • How many links gets you up the index?
  • Is your strategy in the right direction?

The Coefficient report breaks down the top performing sites, for a given keyphrase, and provides a "coefficient ranking" for each. It then makes a comparison with your site, all of a sudden you have the information you need to focus your SEO Strategy.

Beware of Automation!

Search engine optimisation is a complex, time-consuming process. Using automated programs to do the work is an obviously attractive proposition. But take great care before you purchase such a program, or before you commission an SEO that uses automation.

Google has some interesting views on automatic programs, and it's worth taking a look at their attitude.

You should also be very suspicious of e-mails offering to submit your site to hundreds of search engines. Bear in mind first that 90% of search engine traffic is handled by the top five search engines. Then consider how anyone can submit manually to several hundred sites. You'll be paying someone to spend a few seconds running their automatic submission tool, and potentially bringing down the enmity of the people you need most as your allies.

Beware of SEO Automation

There are several e-mails flying about asking you to "Check your listings by..."

The implication is that you're already listed on some directory that claims to be "the first page" for the major search engines (whatever that means!).

The actual proposition is that you sign up for $5 per month to get your site listed in a directory. This attracts users by encouraging them to download a piece of software that actually interferes with the results returned by the main search engines.

If you want to check it out, go ahead. But our advice is not to associate yourself with a company that gains customers by partial truth and returns results by deceiving search engine users.

Watch for the scam
